Maulvi Abdur Rashid, a 110-year-old resident of Kalkini in Madaripur, attended the funeral of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Dhaka on Wednesday. He said he had also attended the funeral of late President Ziaur Rahman, describing it as a historic moment in his life.

The funeral prayer was held at 3:05 PM on Manik Mia Avenue and was led by Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek of Baitul Mokarram National Mosque. Abdur Rashid said he deeply admired Ziaur Rahman’s patriotism and recognized the same dedication to the nation in Khaleda Zia, noting that despite years of imprisonment and numerous challenges, she never compromised her principles.

The funeral procession drew massive public participation, with large crowds lining Manik Mia Avenue, Bijoy Sarani, Khamarbari, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Shahbagh, and Mohammadpur. Khaleda Zia’s body was later transported to Zia Udyan.
