In open defiance of the political activity ban, the Dhaka Metropolitan North (Dhaka Uttar) Awami League organized a large rally on Friday afternoon in Dhaka’s Nabisco area.
Starting around 2 PM, more than two thousand leaders and activists gathered, chanting slogans like “Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Hasina” and “Joy Bangla” while marching towards the Tibet intersection.
Earlier in the day, police had blocked an attempted procession at GMI intersection, detaining Niamul Hasan, a Chhatra League leader from Tejgaon College. Despite these measures, Awami League supporters regrouped under Dhaka Uttar AL, sparking fresh tensions with law enforcement.
