Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), stated that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should not be called the Father of the Nation. While acknowledging Mujib’s role in Bangladesh’s independence, Nahid criticized his leadership and the legacy of the Awami League, accusing them of establishing a “colonial state of India” and laying the groundwork for dictatorship, corruption, and political repression. He described "Mujibism" as a fascist ideology promoting division, human rights abuses, Islamophobia, and communalism. Nahid called for resistance against this ideology and the creation of a democratic Bangladesh free from oppression and political idol worship.
