The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has sentenced deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in the case filed over crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has described the verdict as a milestone, although he said the punishment is not sufficient considering the gravity of the crimes.
Salahuddin said that justice has been established in the International Crimes Tribunal, and this verdict is a milestone. Although the punishment is not adequate in view of the crimes, the verdict will serve as an example so that no future government or individual can turn into a fascist.
He further said that the verdict proves that no matter how strong fascism becomes, no matter how firmly it holds on to power, one day it will have to stand in the dock of the court.
Salahuddin made these remarks in his immediate reaction after the verdict was announced on Monday(November 17).
