Former Barishal BRTA Assistant Director Shahe Alam has been remanded to jail following allegations of fake registration of over 2,000 vehicles and embezzling crores of taka. On Monday (26 January), the Barishal District and Sessions Judge Court rejected his bail application, ordering him to jail. The case stems from investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

While being escorted to prison, Shahe Alam kicked a photojournalist in the presence of police. His relatives also obstructed journalists attempting to cover the incident, highlighting tensions during the transfer.

ACC probes revealed that between 2014 and 2021, while posted at BRTA offices in Barishal, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, and Chattogram, Shahe Alam embezzled approximately 20 crore taka and approved thousands of illegal vehicle registrations. Even after returning to Barishal in 2022, he issued at least 89 more illegal registrations. He is now in jail in connection with the ACC's corruption case.
