Bangladesh’s place in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup is under threat as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has made it clear that the team must play its matches in India to remain in the tournament. According to a report by Cricinfo, the decision was taken during an ICC meeting on Wednesday, where participating boards discussed Bangladesh’s stance and possible alternatives.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was initially instructed to submit its decision by 5:00 pm on Wednesday (January 20). The ICC later granted the BCB one extra day to consult with the government and respond. Officials warned that failure to confirm participation within the extended deadline would force the ICC to move forward with a replacement plan.
Cricinfo reported that ICC full member representatives voted in favor of Bangladesh playing in India, while also approving a contingency option. If Bangladesh ultimately refuses, Scotland will replace them in Group C, where they would face England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy—despite not qualifying through the European regional qualifiers.
