A member of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Nayeb Subedar Md. Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan, was killed in an attack by criminals in the Jangal Salimpur area of Sitakunda, Chattogram. Three other RAB members were injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at Chattogram Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
The information was confirmed by RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain. He said that when RAB members went to conduct an operation, miscreants announced their presence through loudspeakers, gathered local people, and launched a sudden attack on the RAB personnel.
Law enforcement agencies are preparing to conduct operations to arrest those involved in the attack.
According to ARM Mozaffar Hossain, on Monday (January 19) in the afternoon, a RAB-7 operational team led by Major Jalis Mahmud Khan, consisting of 43 RAB members, conducted a raid in the Jangal Salimpur area of Sitakunda to arrest armed criminals. Sensing the presence of RAB, approximately 400 to 500 miscreants gathered after announcements were made over loudspeakers and carried out a surprise attack on the RAB members.
Four RAB personnel were critically injured in the sudden attack. With the assistance of local police, the injured members were rescued and taken to Chattogram CMH for treatment. The on-duty emergency physician at CMH declared Nayeb Subedar Md. Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan dead, while the remaining three injured RAB members are still undergoing treatment.
ARM Mozaffar Hossain further stated that efforts are underway to determine the actual cause of the incident, identify those involved, and take legal action against them.
Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Chattogram District Police, Md. Sirajul Islam, said that one member of the law enforcement agency was killed while conducting an operation in Jangal Salimpur, Sitakunda. As it is already night, authorities will determine the course of action on Tuesday to carry out operations for arresting the accused.
