In Satkania, Chattogram, allegations have emerged that a housewife died after being forcibly made to consume poison by her husband and mother-in-law. The police have stated that legal action is underway, pending investigation.
Manjurul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkania Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying, “The matter is being investigated seriously. Necessary legal action will be taken based on the allegations.”
The incident took place in Bahadir Para of Bardona village in the Sadar Union of the upazila. The deceased housewife’s name was Amena Begum (24). She was the wife of Mohammad Yusuf from the same area.
Relatives of the deceased said that Amena Begum and Mohammad Yusuf were married in 2022 through a family-arranged marriage. Since the marriage, disputes over various family matters had been ongoing between them. Her husband and mother-in-law often subjected Amena to physical and mental abuse over trivial issues.
Mohammad Tousif, the nephew of the deceased Amena Begum, alleged, “On Friday (16 January), Amena was beaten throughout the day. At one point, her husband and mother-in-law together forcibly made her consume poison. After administering the poison, both of them fled the house.”
