An elderly man was killed after being beaten to death by his son with a stick in Muradnagar, Comilla. Police said the killing was caused by a dispute over sharing a cow and paying for his father's Hajj.
The incident took place in Purbapara area of Subilarchar village of the upazila on Monday afternoon. In the evening, police recovered the body from the scene and took it to the police station.
The deceased has been identified as Suruj Mia (65). His eldest son, Faiz Mia (32), who is accused in the incident, has been absconding since the incident.
Police and local sources said that Suruj Mia had already given his three sons separate land and property. However, there was a condition that the six cows would be divided among the three sons after paying the prescribed amount for his own Hajj. Yesterday afternoon, the eldest son, Faiz Mia, took the initiative to sell the cows without paying his father's Hajj money. There was an argument between the father and son over this.
