Abidur Rahim (12), a student of Milestone School and College who was severely burned in the tragic plane crash in Uttara, Dhaka, has finally returned home after six months of intensive treatment. During this period, he underwent a total of 36 surgeries.
The information was shared by Professor Nasir Uddin, Director of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, at a press conference held at the institute’s conference room on Wednesday (21 January).
Abid is a resident of Moakola Purba Para village in Rupbati Union, Shahjadpur Upazila, Sirajganj, and the son of Abul Kalam Azad. He currently lives with his family in Uttara, Dhaka. His elder sister, Raisa (13), is in the eighth grade at Milestone School, while Abid studies in the fourth grade.
On 21 July last year, a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet crashed into the two-story building of Milestone School and College. In the horrifying accident, Abid sustained burns over nearly 25 percent of his body, including both hands, his face, and other parts of his body. His trachea was also seriously injured.
After months of treatment and multiple complex surgeries, Abid has gradually recovered. Doctors have stated that his rehabilitation process will continue.
In the accident, a total of 36 people were killed and 124 injured. The investigation committee identified pilot error during the flight as the cause of the crash.
