Two Indian nationals have been arrested in India’s Meghalaya state for allegedly assisting Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, a prime suspect in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, in escaping across the Bangladesh–India border. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) say the killing was pre-planned, allowing the attackers to flee swiftly before law enforcement could apprehend them.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SM Nazrul Islam said investigators identified the shooter Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud alias Rahul and his accomplice motorcycle driver Mohammad Alamgir Sheikh on the same day of the attack using CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, open-source intelligence, and IT-based analysis. After the shooting, the suspects fled Dhaka by CNG auto-rickshaw to Aminbazar, then traveled to Kalampur in Manikganj before heading to the border-adjacent Haluaghat area in Mymensingh as part of a pre-arranged escape plan.
According to police, two individuals named Philip and Sanjay helped escort the suspects across the border through an illegal route into Meghalaya, where they were later assisted by a woman named Putti. Meghalaya Police have confirmed the arrest of Putti and her husband for facilitating the escape. While Faisal Karim Masud has been named as one of the key shooters, authorities in both countries have yet to officially confirm his current whereabouts.
