Tension emerged along the Joypurhat border early Saturday when India’s Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to construct a barbed wire fence near the zero line at the Ghonapara border in Panchbibi upazila. The construction reportedly began under dense fog near sub-pillars 47, 48 and 49 of border pillar 281, prompting local residents to alert the Koya camp of Joypurhat-20 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Responding swiftly, BGB personnel reached the site and stopped the work, citing violations of international border regulations. The immediate intervention prevented further escalation in the sensitive frontier area and reinforced Bangladesh’s stance against any unilateral activity along the border.
A flag meeting was later held between BGB and BSF officials at the company commander level, during which BSF assured that no further construction would take place and agreed to remove any barbed wire already installed. BGB also lodged a formal protest. Joypurhat-20 BGB Assistant Director Mohammad Imran Hossain confirmed that BGB remains firm against border violations and will take all necessary steps to safeguard national sovereignty.
