A violent clash broke out between activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and BNP's student wing, Chhatra Dal, in Shariatpur's Chowrangi area on Monday evening. Aleast five people were injured after several crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, exploded during the confrontation. The incident occurred as NCP leaders and supporters marched in a protest procession demandingt justice for the shooting death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharil Deman Hadi and the recent shooting of Blas Motaleb Shikdar, an organizer of Sramik Shakti's central committee in Khulna.
Eyewitnesses and police sources reported that tensions flared when a motorcycle ridden by a Chhatra Dal activist entered the procession route, sparking a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into physical violence. Both sides exchanged blows, leading to the detonation of cocktails that caused the injuries.
Leaders from both groups traded blame for the violence. Sohail Talukder, member secretary of district Chhatra Dal, claimed one of their activists was stopped on the road and attacked by NCP members. In contrast, Sabuj Talukder, former joint coordinator of NCP in Shariatpur, alleged that the Chhatra Dal activist deliberately rode into the march and assaulted an NCP supporter, prompting their group to detain him—only for Sohail and his followers to arrive with locally made weapons.Shah Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Palong Model Police Station in Shariatpur, confirmed the clash originated from the motorcycle incident. "Legal action will be taken based on complaints filed by both parties," he stated, as investigations continue.
