Field reports, statements from responsible police officers, and video analysis circulating on social media confirm that there was no direct attack on the Indian diplomatic mission in Chattogram. Following the news of Osman Hadi's death, protests erupted on the streets, with bricks and stones thrown, leading to clashes with police. These events were later misrepresented as an “attack on the High Commission.”
The incident began around 10:00 pm on Thursday, when tensions rose in several parts of Chattogram city. At one point, a group of angry individuals gathered outside the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner, shouting slogans. Around 2:00 am, 20–25 people began protesting on the road while a police team of 10–12 officers was on security duty in front of the office. Two protesters threw bricks at police, followed by two more. Some bricks hit the outer gate of the Assistant High Commission office.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police North Zone Deputy Commissioner Aminur Islam, who was on duty throughout the day, confirmed that there was no attack on the office. He stated that while stones were thrown as protesters passed by, there was no entry, vandalism, or arson. Police acted promptly to control the situation. Around 2:00 am, a section of protesters clashed with police, who then dispersed the crowd using tear gas and sound grenades, resulting in 12 arrests.
Videos circulating on social media show protesters chanting slogans and throwing stones from a distance, while police used tear gas and sound grenades to maintain control. The videos confirm that there was no fire, vandalism, or direct attack on the Indian diplomatic mission. Claims of fire, vandalism acts were false and spread as rumors to create unrest.
