Two Bangladeshis were killed in a shooting by Indian Khasia nationals at the Companiganj border in Sylhet. The deceased was Md. Ashiqur Rahman (22), son of Md. Borhan Uddin of Purba Turung village of Uttar Ronikhai union of the upazila, and Md. Yakub Ali, son of Ajmon Ali of Boram Siddipur of the same area. This incident occurred on Friday at 11:30 am. Some Bangladeshis entered the Rajan Tila area, approximately 1 to 1.5 kilometres inside India, near the border pillar 1260/4-S in the Damdamia area under Companiganj upazila of Sylhet district, to collect supari. At that time, the local Indian garden owner (Khasiya) who was staying there fired several rounds with a gun at them, resulting in Md. Ashiqur Rahman was shot and died on the spot. Later, others who were with him brought the body of the deceased to their home in Bangladesh.These incidents marks the ongoing oppression of India in the border region.
