Angry protesters vandalized the Prothom Alo office in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar and set fires with documents and furniture outside, then targeted the nearby Daily Star office around midnight on December 18, 2025.

The attacks followed news of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi's death, with crowds marching from Shahbagh while chanting slogans. Police and army intervened, but some staff remained trapped initially.

Protesters climbed the four-story Prothom Alo building, broke in, and dragged out papers, computers, and furniture to burn in front.

They then hit the Daily Star office at 12:15am, smashing glass and igniting more materials while shouting "Naray-e-Takbir" and "Allahu Akbar."

Army arrived by 12:35am to disperse the mob of hundreds.

The unrest ties to Hadi's death amid ongoing political tensions in Bangladesh, including Yunus's mourning declaration.

Tejgaon police confirmed efforts to control the vandalism but couldn't identify all attackers immediately. No immediate casualty reports surfaced, though journalists reported being trapped during the chaos.
