The schedule for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election will be announced tomorrow, Thursday (11 December). Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin will declare the election schedule in an address to the nation at 6 PM.
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the information to reporters during a briefing at the EC headquarters this afternoon, Wednesday (10 December). He said the CEC will outline all details regarding the election in his speech. So far, the decision is to announce the schedule for elections in all 300 constituencies.
However, due to complications related to boundary demarcation, two constituencies in Bagerhat and Gazipur have been taken to court by aggrieved parties. The EC Secretary stated that further decisions regarding those seats will be made after receiving the court’s directive.
Meanwhile, ahead of the schedule announcement, the Election Commission, led by CEC Nasir Uddin, met with President Mohammed Shahabuddin today. The delegation included four election commissioners and Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed. The CEC briefed the President on the overall preparations for the election, to which the President expressed satisfaction and assured all necessary assistance to ensure a free and fair election.
Following the meeting with the President, the commissioners convened again at the EC office, presided over by the CEC. Shortly afterward, the EC Secretary confirmed that the countdown to the 13th National Election will officially begin tomorrow.
In preparation for the announcement, Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar were called to the EC office at 4 PM today to record the CEC’s address. The recorded speech will be broadcast tomorrow evening.
Traditionally, the election schedule is announced on the same day the speech is recorded and the EC meets with the President. However, this year marks a departure from that long-standing practice.
