Newly released CCTV footage has intensified the investigation into the brutal double murder of a mother and daughter inside their Shahjahan Road apartment. The victims, 48-year-old Laila Afroze and her 15-year-old daughter Nafisa Nawal Binte Aziz, were found with horrific injuries, their throats and necks being the main sites of attack. Forensic officials confirmed Laila suffered around 30 stab wounds, while Nafisa sustained six.
Investigators have identified the family's newly hired house help as the prime suspect. CCTV footage shows the woman, who introduced herself as Ayesha, entering the building at 7:51am wearing a full black burqa. Shockingly, less than two hours later at 9:36am, the same woman was seen calmly leaving the apartment wearing Nafisa’s secondary school uniform and carrying a school bag. She then left the area on a rickshaw.
According to Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ibne Mizan, the suspect is the only person recorded entering and leaving the apartment within the relevant timeframe, making her the key focus of the inquiry. Nafisa’s father, A.Z. Azizul Islam, a physics teacher, had left early for work but returned home sooner than usual due to ongoing examinations at his school, uncovering the tragic scene.
