Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry has voiced strong condemnation of recent violence against minorities in India, particularly during Christmas celebrations. Spokesperson SM Mahbubul Alam described these as hate crimes targeting Muslims and Christians, urging impartial investigations.
Bangladesh highlighted specific cases, including the killing of Muslim youth Jewel Rana in Odisha, Muhammad Atahar Hossain in Bihar, and mob violence against minorities. Additional reports noted disruptions to Christmas events, such as attacks on a Christian school in Assam by Hindu extremists and vandalism of festive shops.
This statement responds to India's prior concerns over minority violence in Bangladesh, with Dhaka rejecting those claims as "motivated" and calling for mutual protection of minorities. Similar Christmas-related attacks were reported in states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Manipur. Bangladesh emphasized every nation's duty to safeguard minority dignity.
