On Tuesday, December 30, the interim government issued the 2025 Tobacco Control Amendment Ordinance, significantly tightening regulations on tobacco use. Beyond banning emerging products like vapes and e-cigarettes, the law now strictly prohibits the use of any tobacco products in all public places and public transport. This simple exchange at a local shop counter now carries higher stakes, as the penalty for violating public smoking provisions has been increased from 300 taka to a maximum of 2,000 taka.
