At least 13 people have been killed after a fast-spreading fire engulfed seven high-rise residential buildings in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district. The blaze, which started on external bamboo scaffolding, rapidly tore through the housing complex home to nearly 5,000 residents.
Over 700 people were evacuated, with several elderly residents trapped and dozens injured. One firefighter is among the dead. Fire officials say extreme heat, falling debris and collapsing scaffolding continue to make rescue operations dangerously difficult as crews work through the night.
