Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said that if his party comes to power, women will not be forced to wear the burqa.
He added that fears are often spread claiming that Jamaat would compel women to wear the burqa if it forms a government, but such claims are baseless.
Shafiqur made these remarks on Tuesday night (25 Nov) while addressing a citizens’ gathering as the chief guest at Ruposhi Pro-Active Village Road in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The event was organised by the Dhaka North Metropolitan Professional Council of Jamaat-e-Islami.
