Police officers patrolling in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were attacked by a group of robbers who mistook the vehicle for a regular passenger ride in Narayanganj’s Araihazar-Bishnondi road area.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Sunday (November 23) in the Jalakandi area of Araihazar. As the robbers launched the attack, officers unexpectedly emerged from inside the CNG, forcing the attackers to flee.

To curb nighttime robberies and mugging incidents, police had been conducting patrols in a plain CNG auto-rickshaw. When the vehicle entered the Jalakandi area, several robbers armed with ramdas (large machetes) suddenly ambushed it. Quickly realizing the situation, the officers fought back.

During the scuffle, Constable Maruf from the Gopaldi Investigation Center managed to snatch a ramda from one of the attackers. The robbers then fled as police pursued them. Constable Maruf sustained minor injuries during the confrontation.

Araihazar Police Station OC Khondaker Nasir Uddin stated that the robbers attacked the vehicle assuming it carried regular passengers. Acting promptly on ASI Ripon’s command, the officers resisted the attack and forced the robbers to escape. Police have launched an operation to identify and arrest the suspects.
