Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has rejected the allegations against her in the International Crimes Tribunal’s ongoing case related to last year’s violent protests. In a recorded message from Delhi, the 78-year-old leader of the Awami League described the charges as unfounded and accused the interim administration, led by Muhammad Yunus, of trying to dismantle her political party.
The tribunal has charged Hasina and ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal with crimes against humanity, and prosecutors are demanding the death penalty for both, though they are being tried in absentia. Hasina asserted that only Allah can determine the end of her life and pledged to continue her commitment to serving the people of Bangladesh.
She further criticized the interim government, accusing it of protecting wrongdoers and holding it responsible for the country's economic decline and increased political repression.
