A fire swept through a market in Narayanganj city early Saturday, burning down 35 shops.The blaze started around 5am at hosiery and body-knitting shops in Samir Kar Market in the city’s Notun Palpara area, officials said.
Five units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence responded to the scene after receiving the call at 4:55am.
Narayanganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arifin said firefighters brought the flames under control after an hour of effort.“No casualties were reported. However, 35 semi-pucca shops were burnt,” he said.The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses will be determined after an investigation, he added.
