Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Naib-e-Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has emphasized that a referendum (Gonovote) must be held before the upcoming national elections. He stated that if the referendum is delayed or not held before the election, all future elections will face pressure and disruptions. Taher insists that the referendum should not coincide with the national election day, and it should be conducted earlier to avoid political instability. He mentioned the importance of implementing the July National Charter reforms before the elections and that holding the referendum in November would be ideal, with the date announced in the first week of November and the referendum taking place towards the end of the month. He stressed that the referendum process should be clear and not merged with other election activities to ensure the July Charter's effective implementation.
