The facility, expected to be completed by December this year, marks a significant advancement in the nation’s defense industrial capabilities. Alongside, China has also proposed setting up an aircraft overhaul center in Bangladesh — a move that could further strengthen the country's aviation maintenance and manufacturing infrastructure. The development was discussed in a recent BIDA coordination meeting chaired by Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud bin Harun, where officials emphasized the creation of a specialized defense economic zone to attract local, private, and foreign investment for military and paramilitary equipment production.
