The metro rail has resumed service in the capital's Agargaon to Shahbag section. The metro rail resumed service on Thursday morning.
An official of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which is responsible for the construction and operation of the metro rail in Dhaka, told the media that the problem was resolved by 12:30 am yesterday. Train services have resumed as usual since this morning.
Earlier, the metro service was stopped at 9:10 pm on Wednesday. The matter was confirmed by Ahsanullah Sharifi, Deputy Director (Public Relations) of Metro Rail MRT-6.
On Sunday, around 12:15 pm, a bearing pad of the metro rail fell off in the area adjacent to Farmgate Metro Station in front of the Krishibid Institute, killing a pedestrian named Abul Kalam. After that, the metro rail service was stopped. Later, the metro rail was first started from Uttara to Agargaon at around 3 pm and from Motijheel to Shahbagh at around 7:15 pm. After installing the bearing pads, the metro rail was opened on the entire route at around 11 am on Monday (October 27). Earlier, on September 18, 2024, a bearing pad had come loose on the metro rail at Farmgate.
Meanwhile, the metro rail authorities on Wednesday requested passengers not to worry about the metro rail movement. This request was made in a statement signed by DMTCL Director (Administration) AKM Khairul Alam. The statement said that the metro rail is operating following all safety regulations. Therefore, the respected passengers are being specially requested not to worry about safety.
