Faridpur came to a standstill this morning as activists of the banned Awami League blocked the Dhaka–Khulna highway for nearly four hours. The blockade began around 6 AM near the Shuadi Bus Stand area in Bhanga upazila, where protesters felled trees across the road and set tyres on fire, completely halting vehicular movement. Several ambulances were reportedly turned back, though those carrying patients were allowed to pass. The protest was held in support of the lockdown called by the party. Locals said a small group began the demonstration early in the morning, later joined by others, escalating the situation. Police arrived at the scene and spoke with the protesters, who eventually withdrew around 10:15 AM, allowing traffic to resume.Commuters faced hours of delay and congestion on both sides of the highway during the blockade. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as reports suggest the protest may continue tomorrow over the reassignment of unions ahead of the national election.
