A tragic accident which occured yesterday beneath Farmgate Metro Station, where a 35-year-old man lost his life after a heavy pad fell from the structure and struck his head. Following the incident, Bangladeshi and Japanese engineers quickly began reinstalling a replacement pad around 3 PM using cranes.
Upon closer inspection, authorities discovered that two pads were missing, causing the upper diaphragm to rest directly on the column — a serious structural fault that may have led to the fatal accident.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has confirmed that metro operations remain limited through the affected section until all safety checks and repairs are completed. The government has also formed a five-member investigation committee to determine the cause of the failure and review metro rail safety standards across the network.
