In Bangladesh, smoking has become a full-blown public health crisis. Recent data reveals that over 20 million adults actively smoke cigarettes, while nearly 35% of the population uses them in some form. But the real tragedy is that non-smokers are suffering too — nearly 40% inhale toxic second-hand smoke in public spaces or at home.

In Dhaka, locals say 8 out of 10 people smoke, turning the city’s air into a haze of pollution and health hazards. Cigarette smoke is no longer just a personal choice; it’s an environmental and social problem that affects everyone — including those who never chose to smoke.

Experts urge the government to take immediate, firm action to control public smoking, protect non-smokers, and prevent the nation from heading toward an even greater health disaster.
