The Bangladesh government has introduced 12 new guidelines for visiting St. Martin’s Island to protect its environment, surroundings, and biodiversity. Announced by the Environment-2 division of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on 22 October, the rules include mandatory online ticket purchases via the Bangladesh Tourism Board’s recognized portal, travel passes with QR codes, and a daily visitor limit of 2,000. Nighttime stays are prohibited in November, and February will see a complete ban on tourist movement.
Additional measures include restrictions on lighting, noise, and barbecues on beaches, protection of wildlife and natural resources, banning motorized vehicles on beaches, and discouraging single-use plastics. Tourists are advised to carry personal water flasks instead of plastic bottles to minimize environmental impact.
