Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) officials have revealed details surrounding the murder of Zobayed Hossain, a Jagannath University Chatrodol leader. According to police, Zobayed was still alive after being stabbed and attempted to climb to the upper floors of the building to save himself only to be met with heartbreak and betrayal.
At a press briefing held Tuesday at the DMP Media Center, Additional Commissioner S.N. Nazrul Islam quoted DC Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami, chief of Lalbagh Zone, as saying:
“Zobayed was still breathing and tried to climb from the second to the third floor to save himself. Barsha was standing there. Seeing her, Zobayed pleaded, ‘Please save me.’ But Barsha replied, ‘If you don’t die, I can’t be with Mahir.’ Then she walked away, confirming his death.”
Police officials stated that Barsha and her long-term boyfriend Mahir purchased two new switchblades before the attack. During the incident, Mahir randomly stabbed Zobayed while Barsha encouraged him a crime that investigators describe as a premeditated murder motivated by a toxic love triangle.

“Later, she told Mahir that she no longer liked Zobayed and wanted to end things,” said the OC. “That’s when the two plotted to kill him.”
Initially, Barsha denied involvement in the murder, but after being confronted face-to-face with Mahir, she reportedly confessed. Police say the pair began planning the murder as early as September 25.
Zobayed Hossain was a student of the 2019–20 academic session in the Department of Statistics at Jagannath University. He was also the President of the Cumilla District Student Welfare Association and a member of the convening committee of JnU Chatrodol.
He was stabbed to death on the staircase of Barsha’s house around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday (October 19). Blood stains were found from the ground floor to the third floor, where his body was later
