Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz has given instructions to shoot armed terrorists on sight (brushfire). He said, my instructions will not be limited to words alone.
The Commissioner gave this instruction verbally in a wireless message to all police members, including those on duty at all CMP police stations and outposts, on Tuesday (November 11) afternoon.
Acknowledging the instructions, the Commissioner said, "Yes, I have given such an instruction to my members. As you know, on August 6, 7 and 8, 2024, police weapons were looted from various police stations in Chittagong city. As a result, many weapons have gone out. We are not sure whether these weapons have gone to terrorists or are not being used for criminal purposes."
He also said, the automatic pistol used in the shooting incident that took place during the election rally a few days ago could also be a police weapon. If we could have recovered the weapon, then we would have understood whether it was ours or not. In this context, I have given instructions that anyone who tries to kill with a weapon should be shot dead. This is mentioned in sections 75, 76, 96 to 106 of the Penal Code.
It is worth noting that earlier in August, the CMP Commissioner had similarly issued a radio message ordering that anyone who pulls out a weapon in front of a police patrol or during a raid should be shot on sight in self-defense.
