The widespread disruption on Thursday November 13, 2025, was caused by activists of the banned Awami League staging coordinated blockades at several key points in Faridpur and Shariatpur. The main blockade began at around 6:00 AM on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur near Shuadi Pump and Pukhuria, where activists felled trees and set tires on fire, stopping all vehicle movement and causing long lines of stranded vehicles. Police and army personnel were dispatched to restore order, but traffic remained suspended until at least 9:00 AM.
Separately, a related blockade took place on the Padma Bridge Expressway at the Jazira end in Shariatpur. Activists gathered near Naodoba from 6:00 AM and marched to Tastarkandi, where they set fire to a truck, vandalized two passenger buses, and demonstrated with burning tires. Several crude bomb explosions were also reported, escalating panic. The fire service extinguished the truck fire, and while some vehicles crossed the bridge after 8:30 AM, traffic on the expressway remained largely suspended, causing massive congestion.
Local police confirmed these blockades and the extensive traffic disruption across these major transport routes, with ambulances being turned back except those carrying patients. These were part of an online-declared lockdown and political protest program by the banned Awami League activists
