female student of Dhaka University was allegedly tortured by the manager of a private hostel in Tejgaon after refusing to pay an extra Tk1,000 for allowing a guest to visit her. The student, from Shamsun Nahar Hall for the academic year 2024-25, was beaten and locked in a room after losing consciousness, according to her complaint filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Following the incident, tensions escalated as Dhaka University students and police arrived at the scene. The hostel manager, Razia Begum, was arrested and later sent to jail by a CMM court, said Officer-in-Charge Imamul Hoque of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station .
