Jamaat Will Give Up 100 Seats in National Election If Agreement Reached with Like-Minded Parties: Secretary General

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has stated that the party may relinquish up to 100 seats in the upcoming national election if an agreement is reached with ideologically aligned parties.

Speaking at a reunion event of Chatra Shibir members at Al Faruk Society Complex in Khulna on Friday afternoon, Parwar said that Jamaat is preparing to contest all 300 parliamentary seats but is exploring coordination with like-minded parties. “If unity is achieved, some seats may need to be given up. In that scenario, we might have to leave up to 100 seats. Nevertheless, Jamaat will contest at least 200 seats,” he added.

He further mentioned that seats with slim chances of victory or where Jamaat has never contested may be given up. He also suggested that candidates could transfer their voter registration if they believe they are more popular in another constituency.

The event was attended by both Chatra Shibir members and local Jamaat leaders and activists.
