Police have arrested Bhajendra Sarkar (55) in connection with the rape of an 8-year-old girl in the Surabari area of Gazipur city.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon near a puja mandap, when locals rushed to the scene after hearing the child’s screams and caught the accused red-handed.
The victim, found in a critical condition, was admitted to a local hospital. Her mother later filed a case at Kashimpur Police Station, where Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman confirmed that the child showed initial signs of sexual assault and has been referred for forensic examination.
The accused has been sent to jail through court order.
