Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been detained by Israeli forces after the Gaza Global Sumud Flotilla was intercepted less than 100 miles off Gaza’s coast. The flotilla carried 500+ activists from 40+ countries, aiming to break Israel’s blockade and deliver food, water, and medical supplies.

Israeli naval forces reportedly disabled communications, circled vessels, and boarded multiple ships — including the Alma, Sirius, and Adara — before transferring passengers to an Israeli port. Activists described the maneuvers as dangerous intimidation, while Israel insisted the blockade enforcement was “lawful.”

Thunberg, seen sitting calmly on the Alma before being taken into custody, was later confirmed safe. She and other activists condemned the interception as illegal and a direct assault on humanitarian missions, rejecting Israel’s accusations of Hamas ties.

This marks her second detention this year for attempting to reach Gaza. Rights groups and international observers warn the blockade constitutes a humanitarian crisis, while critics accuse Israel of silencing global solidarity through force.
