National Citizen Party (NCP) chief organiser Sarjis Alam has issued a strong warning — the party will take to the streets if the Election Commission refuses to allot them the ‘shapla’ (water lily) symbol.

Speaking at a press conference in Habiganj after a coordination meeting, Alam alleged that the EC is under political influence and not giving any valid explanation for withholding the symbol.
He confirmed that talks are ongoing with like-minded parties including Gono Odhikar Parishad and AB Party, but reiterated that the party’s primary goal is to contest the election with ‘shapla’.
Alam also blasted what he called a wave of political harassment and false lawsuits, warning of protests if such actions continue.

He further argued that those who participated in the 2018 and 2024 elections under the current framework had only legitimised the ruling Awami League, saying they “must go through judicial processes” before contesting again. The remarks mark an escalation of tensions as the election symbol dispute intensifies.
