In Cumilla, police have announced the withdrawal of the officer-in-charge (OC) of the relevant police station after failing to stop a banned Chatro League procession on highways and major roads. According to multiple intelligence agencies and police sources, the Chatro League is planning large-scale sabotage on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. In response, the district police have taken strict measures, with police officers near the highways working tirelessly through the night.Investigations reveal that for several months, the Chatro League has been targeting the Dhaka-Chattogram highway with various disruptive activities. The organization has conducted multiple sudden processions and sabotage attempts at several points in Cumilla district. As a result, four separate cases have been filed in Daudkandi and Sadar South areas, and 132 leaders and activists of Awami League and Chatro League have been arrested within a week.Iqbal Bahar, Officer-in-Charge of Maynamati Highway Police Station, said that he personally stays on the roads regularly to prevent Chatro League’s sabotage. He mentioned that coordination with the district police is ongoing and efforts to control crime on the highway remain uncompromised.Mohammad Selim, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar South Police Station, expressed serious concern over the Chhatra League’s disruptive activities on the highway. He stated that failure to stop these sudden processions and sabotage attempts would lead to his withdrawal from the OC post. He is dedicating extensive time day and night on the highways.Junaid Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Daudkandi Police Station, reported that 28 leaders and activists of Awami League and Chatro League were arrested last week during preparations for highway sabotage. Patrols and intelligence operations on the highway have been intensified under strict directives from the Police Superintendent.Police Superintendent Mohammad Nazir Ahmed said all OCs in charge of the relevant police stations have been given strict instructions to prevent any disruptive activities by the banned Chatro League. He warned that negligence in duties would not be tolerated.
