Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, speaking in New York, emphasized the need for deeper regional economic cooperation while acknowledging ongoing tensions with India. Yunus pointed to strained relations following actions by Bangladeshi students and India’s sheltering of former PM Sheikh Hasina, saying it has fueled “fake news” and mistrust. He urged looking beyond borders — to Nepal, Bhutan, and India’s northeast — and even ASEAN, highlighting Bangladesh’s potential as a hub of regional harmony and interconnectivity.
