A six-hour blockade brought Khagrachhari to a standstill today as protesters demanded justice for the rape of a class-eight student. The incident occurred on the night of September 23 when the girl was assaulted while returning home from private tuition. Her father filed a case the following morning with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station against three unidentified men.
From 6:00am to 12:00pm, traffic remained suspended on major routes, including Dhaka-Khagrachhari, Chattogram-Khagrachhari, Khagrachhari-Rangamati, and Khagrachhari-Sajek, causing severe commuter suffering. Protesters, under the banner of “Jumma Chhatra-Janata”, blocked roads by burning tyres and placing tree trunks, demanding swift arrest and punishment of the culprits as well as stronger measures to ensure women’s safety.
Police confirmed that apart from tyre burning, no major violence occurred during the blockade. Law enforcement remains on high alert as pressure mounts for justice in the case.
