Seven political parties led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are set to stage simultaneous protest marches in Dhaka today (Thursday, 18 September), pressing for full implementation of the “July Charter,” adopted in the February declaration, along with several other demands.

Ahead of the marches, brief rallies will be held at key points including Baitul Mukarram, the National Press Club and Bijoynagar. The programmes will continue from afternoon until evening.

The participating parties are: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Khelafat Majlish, Nezame Islam Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa).
While some of them have placed five demands and others six or seven, all share the same core call — full implementation of the July Charter and holding of a national election on its basis.

Today’s protests in Dhaka mark the beginning of the programme. Similar demonstrations will be organised in divisional cities on Friday and across all districts and upazilas on 26 September.
