Vote counting at two centers of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election has been temporarily halted due to alleged interference by candidates, according to sources from both centers.
At the Dhaka University Club, where vote counting was underway, Shadik Kayem, the vice president (VP) candidate supported by the Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, reportedly entered the center with a group of individuals. A photo circulating on social media shows Kayem at the scene. Observers at the center confirmed that counting has not resumed since the disruption.
Similarly, at the TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) center, disruptions were caused by Abidul Islam Khan, the VP candidate supported by the Chhatra Dal panel, and independent joint general secretary candidate Hasibul Islam. The two were seen causing a commotion at the entrance to the center, where they loudly chanted slogans accusing the administration of electoral fraud, including "Vote thieves, administration vote thieves." This led to a suspension of the counting process at the TSC center as well.
Abidul Islam Khan further alleged that Shadik Kayem had been allowed to observe the vote counting at both centers, but their attempts to enter had been blocked. As of now, vote counting remains halted at both locations, with no official statement regarding when it will resume.
