In Comilla city, the bodies of a university student and her mother were found in their rented apartment. According to initial police investigations, this appears to be a planned murder. The victims were Tahmina Begum (52) and her daughter Sumaiya Afrin (23), a student of Comilla University’s Department of Public Administration (session 2021-22). They lived in a rented apartment in Kaliakuri area for about four years.
The bodies were discovered on Monday morning at the second floor of a building in Ward 3 by police after a tip-off from Sumaiya’s elder brother. Police suspect they were strangled to death, as no significant external injuries were visible. CCTV footage from the building’s ground floor school is being analyzed for clues. The police confirmed nothing was missing from the house, and investigations are ongoing to find the perpetrators.
Mohammad Tajul Islam (Foysal), the elder brother and a lawyer, demanded a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for the killers, stating they had no known enemies.
