Tensions escalated in Hathazari, Chattogram, on Saturday evening, September 6, 2025, following an incident involving a disrespectful gesture near the Hathazari Madrasa. A young man, identified as 20-year-old Arian Ibrahim, posted an obscene gesture in front of the madrasa, which quickly spread on social media, inciting anger among local residents and madrasa students. In response, protesters blocked roads and vandalized vehicles, leading to clashes with law enforcement. At least 15 individuals were injured and admitted to the Hathazari Health Complex.

To restore order, the Hathazari Upazila administration imposed Section 144, prohibiting public gatherings and movement of five or more people, effective from 10:00 PM on September 6 until 3:00 PM on September 7. The restriction covers areas from Mirer Hat to the Eleven Mile Substation and from the Upazila Gate to the Agricultural Training Institute. Police detained Arian Ibrahim in Fatikchhari while he was returning from a procession.

The incident has sparked widespread discussions on social media, with many condemning the disrespectful act and the subsequent violence. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace in the area.
