Selim Pradhan, a central figure in the casino scandal, was arrested early Saturday at around 4 a.m. during a police raid at a restaurant in Baridhara. Along with nine others, he was detained, and authorities seized 6.7 kilograms of shisha, seven shisha stands, and related equipment.
According to Gulshan Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Al Amin Hossain, an illegal shisha bar was operating at Nexus Café, located at House 43, Road 12, Baridhara, which is owned by Selim Pradhan.
Previously, on September 30, 2019, the RAB arrested Selim Pradhan at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as he was about to board a flight to Thailand. Subsequent raids on his home and office uncovered large amounts of domestic and foreign currency and foreign liquor. Law enforcement identified him as the mastermind behind online casinos and gambling in Bangladesh, involved in laundering vast sums abroad. He served four years in prison in an Anti-Corruption Commission case.
