Fascist Awami League Barred from Contesting in Upcoming 13th National Election
The fascist party Awami League will not be allowed to contest in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Election Commissioner (EC) Abul Fazl Md. Sanaullah confirmed on Wednesday while speaking to reporters at the Election Commission Secretariat.
When asked whether Awami League could participate in the polls, the commissioner replied that if a party’s activities remain suspended, its electoral symbol will also remain suspended. “In that case, they cannot contest the election. Whether individuals from the party can run as independents without the symbol will depend on future circumstances,” he added.
This means that unless the suspension order is lifted, the registered party will not be able to take part in the election under its official electoral symbol. Although he did not directly mention Awami League by name, the commissioner made it clear that any banned party would be barred from the polls.
It should be noted that in May this year, the interim government banned all political activities of the Awami League under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
