On the occasion of its 47th founding anniversary, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) received greetings from the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).

A five-member NCP delegation, led by the party’s Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, visited the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday (September 1) to convey their greetings. On behalf of the NCP, Sarjis Alam presented flowers to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, followed by a discussion between the two parties.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, along with NCP leaders Samanta Sharmin, Ariful Islam, and Mainul Islam, were present at the meeting.

Following the discussion, Sarjis Alam told reporters that Sheikh Hasina has damaged not only democracy but also the political culture of the country. “Differences of opinion may exist, but without cordial relations among political parties, building a new Bangladesh will not be possible,” he said.

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed stated that reforms in Bangladesh had largely taken place under BNP’s leadership. He emphasized that one of the aspirations of the martyrs was to preserve a healthy political culture. “Whatever differences exist on the ground, we must uphold a constructive political culture to eliminate fascist politics. Let democratic values prevail,” he added.
